CHAPTER 28

SHADE

I share a lot in common with Allegra. I recognize the yearning in her expression and the pain in her eyes when she thinks no one is looking. The sense of spinning out of control with nothing to hang onto.

It surprises me that I want to be the one she reaches out to steady her. The man who protects her from the storm even though I created it. I expect it’s because I feel responsible for breaking her. I have gone in hard and all to prove a point. I do what the fuck I like and to hell with the consequences.

This has always been my life. I’ve lost count of the souls I have broken just for my own pleasure. However, this time, I don’t like watching her break.

We head to the upper floor of the hotel via the private elevator I had installed for this purpose. Nobody gets to see the seedier part of my business. The hotel operates as normal, and this floor is only accessed from Angelz. It offers a degree of privacy for my customers. Nobody watches them walk on the wild side and at the end of it they return the same way and head out of my club with nobody any wiser.

We enter a vacant room, and I lock the door, placing the ‘do not disturb’ sign outside, notifying my dancers that this room is occupied.

Allegra peers around her with interest at the rather stark functional bedroom that has none of the luxuries of the rest of the hotel.

“It’s pretty basic, isn’t it?”

She shakes her head, glancing at the bed with no sheets with a disparaging gaze.

“It suits its purpose.” I shrug out of my jacket. “It’s a fuck room. What do you expect?”

She shrugs and wanders around the small space, heading over to the window and gazing down on the street below.

“Normal life goes on.” She mutters almost to herself, and I nod. “If you say so. Life can be anything but normal. Normal is overrated.”

She turns and seeing her in the blonde wig disturbs me a little. She is still wearing the mask and I don’t like it. I want my princess back. To stare into her beautiful eyes as I ruin her. To watch the emotions flickering like a dancing flame, powerful and bright; so hot it burns.

I head toward her, and she licks her lips, her smile a slight tremble and I reach up and remove her mask, loving her heightened color and the sparkle in her eyes.

I ease the wig off, almost groaning as her luxurious hair tumbles down around her shoulders, causing me to run my fingers through it and whisper, “You are so beautiful, Ally.”

Her eyes widen at my choice of name because this is the first time I have addressed her more as a friend than my victim. It’s more intimate somehow, almost as if we share a close bond rather than me forcing her into a situation she has no choice of.

I grip her face and force it to my greedy lips, and tentatively brush them against hers.
